October 2021

The Sixteenth Rockdale Math Competition

The 16th RMC was held on October 16, 2021 for high schools.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were restricted to registering a maximum of two teams of 4 students.  Some schools were not comformatble making the trip, and declined to particpate.  Those who did attended were required to wear masks. These restrictions led to a small competition: 99 Varsity students and 55 JV students, for a total of 154 students from 22 schools.  This was the first in-person math competition in Georgia since March 7, 2020, and we were all very happy to be back in person!

Once again, we offered an ARML-style competition, with a Power, Team, Relay, and Individual rounds. Each school was invited to bring a four-student teams in each of middle school, junior varsity, or varsity.

As with previous years, we continued the weighting of the Individual Round problems based on how many participants incorrectly answered each question (see the October 2013 page for more details). This file hows the percentage of participants who got each problem incorrect, and thus, these were the weights assigned to each problem.

The competition papers will be included in the second “Problem Book” for the years 2015 to 2024.

Team trophies were awarded to the top 3 teams in junior varsity and varsity per classification. We awarded the highest-scoring students in junior varsity and varsity a Championship Medal. We also awarded the highest scoring student from each school a School Winner Medal. Additionally, the overall first place team winners in JV and Varsity divisions won a Rockdale Math Competition T-shirt.

Listed here are all team rankings per level and the top individual winners in each category.
